Abstract
"Modeling of induction generators for power flow and stability simulations is presented. The two cases of using induction generators as a PV bus (Voltage Controlled bus) and as a PQ bus (Load bus) are presented. In the real sense, induction generators are used as a negative load bus due to their inefficiency in controlling the bus voltage. The feasibility of using an existing dynamic model for the induction generator in PSS/E software is checked for compatibility in use with a wind generating system. The behavior of this dynamic model with regard to reactive power output in power flow and dynamic cases is investigated.
Tests are carried out on an actual power system-Ameren's regional network. More accurate methods for the dynamic model initialization are discussed and the method employed to get the steady state reactive power, and the reactive power mismatch is presented. System studies are undertaken to validate the model behavior in power flow and dynamic simulations"--Abstract, page iii.
