"This paper seeks to show that the recent history and present situation of manufacturing has much in common with the conditions that caused the emergence of "systems architecting"; and that the tools and skills of a systems architect, are in large measure, what is missing to aid management in making the transformation to architectures of manufacturing excllence.--Introduction, page 2.
