Intellectuals, Literature, and Publishing Houses in Iran: 1960-1990

Abstract

This paper contends that the politics of interpretation in any society cannot be comprehended in its entirety unless the questions of agency and medium are analyzed. Looking at the role of publishing houses in Iran both before and after the revolution, the author contends that the latter has indeed played an instrumental role in shaping the Iranian political culture.
