Chemical Enhanced Oil Recovery Methods for Unconventional Reservoirs
Abstract
This chapter highlights the importance of chemical EOR methods in both conventional and unconventional reservoirs. Furthermore, it discusses the different types of chemical EOR methods, their EOR mechanisms, and the obstacles to their success. This chapter focuses on how to alter the oil affinity for shale reservoirs and increase the spontaneous imbibition using different chemical additives. The applicability of different types of surfactants in rocks with different compositions is introduced. The effect of the adsorption rate and imbibition penetration depth on surfactant performance is also discussed, as is the effect of the intensity of natural fractures on the imbibition rate.
