Water Injection in Unconventional Reservoirs
Abstract
This chapter explains how the mechanisms of water injection are different in conventional reservoirs than in shale and tight oil reservoirs. In addition, it compares the performance of water huff-n-puff versus water flooding in shale and tight oil reservoirs. The effect of the chemical composition of the injected water on the performance of the cyclic water-based EOR technique for unconventional reservoirs is discussed. The field applications of water injection in shale formations are demonstrated.
