Abstract
"It is difficult to imagine a world without plastics. Although the development of most modern plastic materials took place after 1930, such matria1s are so common today that the word "plastic" is often used as an adjective to connote cheapness or lack of substance. Nevertheless, it 1s important to remember that for many uses plastics offer technical and cost advantages over other materials.
