Structural Optimization Using A Fuzzy Goal Programming Approach
Abstract
The uncertainty in the description of a design optimization problem is modeled using fuzzy sets. Instead of formulating a design problem in terms of a scalar optimization problem, a development of a fuzzy goal programming problem is proposed. The approach is based on the assumption that the designer is able to specify target values for various design goals. The various steps involved in the formulation of a fuzzy goal programming problem are discussed. The problem is solved by constructing a decision function as a fuzzy set using fuzzy arithmetic. An algorithm is outlined which uses the gradient information of the decision fuzzy set to find a non-dominated solution. The approach is illustrated on planar truss optimization problems and the results are discussed. © 1990.
