A Group Technology Based Methodology For Machine Cell Formation In A Computer Integrated Manufacturing Environment
Abstract
A new two-phase methodology is developed to form machine cells in a computer integrated manufacturing environment using dissimilarity measure between design and manufacturing attributes of parts. An 18-digit classification and coding method is developed. The first phase of the methodology enables the decision maker to assign priority to the attributes in order to group parts into part families. In the second phase, machines are grouped into manufacturing cells based on relevant operational costs. A comprehensive software package, KAMCELL is developed which can be used as a tool for model development and analysis. © 1993.
