Systematic Literature Review of Quality Maturity Matrix
Abstract
A maturity matrix (MM) is a tool used by managers to address limitations and perform a gap analysis to align processes to strategic goals. An MM can be designed to directly assess performance levels throughout an organisation or focus upon a process. The direction that the manager takes relies upon the knowledge of the tool and how it relates to the desired improvements. A quality maturity matrix (QMM) analyses the quality tools, methodologies, and approaches to benchmark and compare current levels to desired outputs. While the MM is commonplace, a challenge with the nomenclature exists when addressing quality holistically because of the limited literature regarding a QMM. This paper provides a review of the literature on the use of a QMM. The objective of this paper is to detail how a QMM is employed and integrated into an organisation. It is evident from the systematic review that quality maturity matrices are utilised in various business environments by different facets of quality. Further, there are no discernable research trends or consistent strategies.
