ASEM Engineering Manager Certification
Abstract
The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASEM) has been the lead society supporting and managing the Engineering Management Certification International (EMCI) since its inception. ASME has announced the termination of EMCI and has asked ASEM to take over the Guide to the Engineering Management Body of Knowledge (EMBOK) [2006] and the engineering manager certification program. after June 30, 2010 ASME will cease certifying individuals and will turn the task over to ASEM. the EMCI certification program consisted of two levels, the fundamental and professional levels, designated EMCF and EMCP respectfully. the exams were developed by an EMCI Examination Committee and were based on the first edition of the EMBOK. Additional criteria were established for certification including education and the number of years of professional experience. This paper will explore the role and steps taken by ASEM to take over both the EMBOK and the Engineering Manager Certification.
