Activity-Product-Module (APM) Framework for Identifying Standardized Modules
Abstract
Companies are striving to provide customized products in a cost effective manner using mass customization strategies such as product platforming, product family, and modular designs. Traditionally, these strategies are applied to similar product types. in our approach, apply these techniques to a wider variety of seemingly disparate products. We propose a new Activity-Product- Module (APM) framework methodology. We apply the Market-Basket Analysis (MBA) data mining technique and statistical clustering technique to deduce associations between activities, products, and modules to ultimately yield potential clusters of modules that may be developed and standardized to serve multiple product types.
