Managing Information Technology Projects in Academia
Abstract
In this paper, we propose a framework for developing agile strategies for managing the risks associated with the implementation of IT projects in academia. Our particular focus is on IT projects of medium-scale proportions ($5 to $50 millions capital budget), and/or medium duration (2 to 5 years) implementation. This approach combines a phased, structured system development process and an iterative modeling approach to enable incremental system development and continuous system improvement. The utility of this approach is examined via in-depth interviews with project participants in three case studies drawn from academia.
