Experimental Study on Noise Coupling among Multiple Power Areas through Edge Coupling and Via Penetrations
Abstract
High-frequency noise can be coupled among multiple power areas through edge coupling and via penetrations. Cavity models with both vertical and horizontal connections are used to model the coupling characteristics. Experimental study was conducted to validate this modeling approach. the measured and modeled results agree very well up to several GHz, demonstrating the effectiveness of the approach. Although there are some discrepancies especially at high frequencies possibly due to the neglect of the fringing effect in the cavity connection model, the modeling approach has been demonstrated to be effective and useful for engineering applications in practical designs.
