Signal Processing for Landmine Detection using a Waterjet
Abstract
A statistical model for a directional microphone pickup is postulated and the optimum receivers for the decision in landmine detection are statistically derived. An adaptive receiver which uses the microphone output to adaptively estimate the essential information required by the optimum receiver is described. The structure of the adaptive receiver is motivated by the optimum receivers and the generalized likelihood ratio test of statistical decision theory. The performance of the optimum and adaptive receivers was investigated using a combination of theory, simulation, and laboratory data. The study focused primarily with block processing in which a single decision is reached after fixed time interval.
