Study of Link Congestion during I/O Transfers in 2-D Meshes using Wormhole Routing
Abstract
2-D mesh has proved to be one of the effective and efficient topologies for high-performance massively parallel computing (MPC) systems, and wormhole routing is being used as the switching scheme in most of the MPCs. Link congestion is a metric which indicates the amount of data passing through a link during data transfers. A knowledge of link congestion facilitates location of hot-spots and (re)design of the routes of the data packets. This paper studies the link congestion during I/O transfers in 2-D meshes under various routing schemes, and presents the results of simulation.
