The Efficient Equivalent Model for Decoupling Capacitors of Power Distribution Network
Abstract
Decoupling capacitor is an essential part of power distribution network (PDN) of a high speed printed circuit board (PCB) for power noise regulation. The total equivalent inductance above the top ground plane looking into the decoupling capacitor is regarded as Labove which is an important part of PDN in order to meet the target impedance. Creating an approximate model for decoupling capacitor is valuable for PDN design. In this paper, an approximate shorted pad pattern model is established for decoupling capacitor mounted case so that getting the inductance of-Labove is simplified. In this way, getting the inductance quickly can provide intuitive guideline in designing PDN and facilitate industry to choose what they want in consideration of the inductance.
