High-Performance and Cost-Effective Time-Domain TRL Calibration Technique for High-Speed PWC Characterization and Qualification

Abstract

In this paper, the time-domain Thru-Reflect-Line (t-TRL) calibration up to now limited to VNA measurement is introduced. To validate this technique, two stripline TRL test vehicles were designed and measured by two different TDR instruments. The t-TRL calibration is applied to the recorded TDR/TDT waveforms and the calibrated S-parameters are achieved. We will show the excellent agreement up to 25 GHz between the t-TRL and VNA TRL data. The combine use of time-domain measurement and t-TRL calibration technique provides a simple and cost-effective characterization and qualification method for high-speed Printed Wired Circuit interconnect structure.
