Synthesis and characterization of metal reagents mediating C-X activation (X=Cl, H) of hydrocarbons

Keywords and Phrases

Oxidation of hydrocarbons; Reductive dechlorinations

Abstract

"This thesis develops methodology for the activation of C-X (X=H, Cl) bonds by transition metals. 2/4-Substituted alkyl pyridines such as cyclohexyl, adamantyl, hydroxyethyl and hydroxymethyl pyridines have been synthesized in moderate to good yields using [FeII (Pic)₂(Py)₂] as a catalyst in pyridine/acetic acid under Gif conditions. The substrates used are alkanes, alcohols and alkyl iodides"--Abstract, page iii.
