Seismic site response of deep soil and embankments in the New Madrid Seismic Zone
Keywords and Phrases
Seismic site response; Seismic retrofit
Abstract
"The Federal Highway Administration and the Missouri Department of Transportation have funded a project at the University of Missouri-Rolla with the objective of improving earthquake resistance, and mitigation of earthquake damage to roadway transportation network, including loss of bridges and highways. This is to be accomplished by developing new seismic design and assessment methodologies, by improving seismic retrofitting measures, and by exchanging and transferring new technologies. Four major tasks were conducted in this study: characterization of typical sites in the NMSZ, free field site response, seismic performance of embankments, and liquefaction potential analysis of shallow subsurface soils"--Introduction, pages 1-2.
