Treasure Island's Spatial Liquefaction Evaluation

Abstract

The NGES site at Treasure Island is located in the back yard of a fire station in the northwest quadrant of the island. To perform spatial liquefaction evaluation there was a need for more spatially distributed data and not necessarily of the high level of quality obtained at the NGES site. However, NGES data was used as research quality data and provided a reference for high quality data in the overall study, as well as the only deep subsurface sounding reaching bedrock. This paper summarizes the research involving subsurface geotechnical data from Treasure Island performed by a number of consultants in the San Francisco Bay Area as the island was developed by the US Navy. Methodologies to assess the quality of the subsurface data and the spatial distribution of liquefaction potential index (LPI) and post-liquefaction induced settlements are described.
