A Study of Factors Contributing to Low Retention Rates
Abstract
The efforts done by the University of Missouri Rolla (UMR) to examine the effect of low grades on student satisfaction, are discussed. The student performance related to student satisfaction variables, faculty grading policies, and enrollment levels are examined using data that are available. It is observed that enrollment, student perceptions of fairness and instructor prepared all are significant indicators of student performance at this level of aggregation. Instructor's communication skills, his ability to stimulate interest in the course and student perception of workload, all show insignificant statistics.
