Golden Anniversary of the AISI Specification

Abstract

The historical development of the American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI) Specification during the last 50 years, since 1946 were studied. The review of the past experience and background information benefit the planning of future research and the development of new design criteria for cold-formed steel structural members and structural systems. The improvements made in various editions of the specifications to satisfy the need of the design profession using new materials is also discussed. It also discusses the other related publications and activities outlined in this presentation.
