Transient Liquid Crystals in a W/O Microemulsion
Abstract
Preliminary investigations were made to evaluate the potential for water/oil microemulsions forming a transient liquid crystalline structure against an aqueous phase. Water poor W/O microemulsions were layered on top of pure water with a weight ratio to give a final transparent W/O microemulsion with maximum water content. The results showed the duration of the liquid crystalline layer to depend on the cosurfactant/surfactant ratio and on the hydrocarbon content of the W/O microemulsion.
