Friedel-Crafts Reactions
Abstract
Recent trends in Friedel-Crafts and related electrophilic reactions, using a variety of Lewis and Brønsted acid catalysts, are comprehensively reviewed. The Friedel-Crafts reactions include alkylations, acylations, hydroxylations, nitrations, halogenations, aminations, sulfuration, sulfinylation, and sulfonylation of aromatic and olefinic hydrocarbons. The nature and types of acid catalysts are discussed, including superelectrophilic activation. Representative stereoselective Friedel-Crafts alkylations are also described.
