Equilibrium Reactions in Oxidic High Temperature Solutions Used for Liquid Phase Epitaxy of Garnets
Abstract
Measurements were made of the viscosity, density, and electrical conductivity of high temperature solutions of metal oxides, especially Fe 2O 3 and Ga 2O 3, in PbO. Combination of the Stokes-Einstein and the Nernst-Einstein equations allows the computation of the electrical conductivity. When it is assumed that the solutes are present as MeO 3-2x x, x eff can be obtained by comparison of the experimental and calculated values of the electrical conductivity. In dependence on the concentration of the solute and hence the concentration of the oxygen ions, the coordination number x of the real species must be changed. The results of model computations assuming equilibrium reactions are given. © 1981.
