Preparation of Soy Hull Augmented Polyurethanes and Assessment of their Thermal Conductivity and Gas Permeability
Abstract
Previous studies have shown that the rigid and the flexible polyurethane foams prepared through partial substitution of polyol with soy hull possess superior mechanical properties than foams that did not contain soy hull. . Present study was aimed at evaluating density, hardness, thermal conductivity and gas permeability of soy hull containing polyurethane through standard test methods. Results of thermal conductivity test showed that thermal conductivities of soy hull containing polyurethane films was comparable to that of polyurethane films without soy hull. Similarly, gas permeability of polyurethanes films with soy hull was equal to or lower than that of the polyurethane films which did not contain soy hull.
