Specific Heats of Lu₆Mn₂₃, Gd₆Mn₂₃, Dy₆Mn₂₃, and Er₆Mn₂₃ from 1.7-18 K
Abstract
Specific heat results are reported for the intermetallic rare earth compounds Lu//6Mn//2//3, Gd//6Mn//2//3, Dy//6Mn//2//3, and Er//6Mn//2//3 in the temperature range 1. 7-18 K. No evidence was found which indicated changes in magnetic spin structure for Gd//6Mn//2//3 and Dy//6Mn//2//3. The origin of a broad bump in the region from 2-8 K for Er//6Mn//2//3 is not understood. The specific heat of the diamagnetic compound Lu//6Mn//2//3 was well described by the expression, C equals gamma T plus alpha T**3 plus delta T**5, where gamma equals 0. 277 plus or minus 0. 005 and delta equals 0. 00285 plus or minus 0. 00005 when C is in units of J/mol K. From the value of alpha , theta //D was calculated to be 270 plus or minus 2K.
