Structural and Magnetic Properties of Y(Mn₁₋ₓFeₓ)₁₂
Abstract
The crystallographic and the magnetic structures of Y(Mn//1// minus //x Fe//x)//1//2 intermetallic compounds were studied. They crystallize in the ThMn//1//2 structure type. The Y atoms occupy the 2(a) sites and the transition metals are distributed on 3 nonequivalent sites 8i, 8j, and 8f. The solid solubility limit (x equals 0. 67) of Fe in YMn//1//2 have been determined. Neutron diffraction spectra at different temperatures have been used to study the nuclear and magnetic structure of Y(Mn//0//. //7Fe//0//. //3)//1//2 and Y(Mn//0//. //4Fe//0//. //6)//1//2. Antiferromagnetic, noncollinear structures are proposed for these two compounds.
