Neutron Diffraction Study of YₓLa₁₋ₓ(CoyFe₁₋y)₅ Alloys
Abstract
Neutron diffraction studies and some complementary magnetic measurements have been made of YxLa1 - x(CoyFe1 - y)5 intermetallic compounds to determine whether Co-Fe ordering occurred on the two non-equivalent crystallographic sites, 2c and 3g, of the CaCu5-type structure. The easy axis of magnetization is found to be along →c. iHc decreases and Bs increases when Fe is partially substituted for Co. Assuming that Y and La fully occupy the site 0, 0, 0 in a ratio of 7 3 for y 0.7La0.3Fe0.8Co4.2, the model which best fits both nuclear and magnetic intensities distributes the Fe and Co atoms randomly amongst the 2c and 3g sites. © 1974.
