Singlet Molecular Oxygen Pumping of If B³Π(0⁺)ᵃ
Abstract
Chemiluminescence from the reactions: I2+F2 I 2+F2+O2(1Δ) and I 2+F+O2(1Δ) has been studied. All three reactions produced emission from the B 3Π(0+)→X 1Σ+ system of IF. The two reactions utilizing O 2(1Δ) produced much higher chemiluminescent intensities than did the I2+F2 reaction. The photon yield of the I2+F2+O2(1Δ) reaction was measured to be 0.3%. Rotational and vibrational temperatures in IF(B) were determined. Rotational temperatures were approximately 300 K while nonthermal vibrational distributions were observed. Possible mechanisms of IF(B) production are discussed. © 1983 American Institute of Physics.
