Geometrical Description of the TCDD Contamination of Times Beach
Abstract
This report is devoted to the description of the surface and underground contamination of the soil at Times Beach, taking advantage, as much as possible, of the models developed to describe the contamination of the Seveso area. A collaboration between the University of Missouri and the University of Pavia was established for this purpose in 1986.
Times Beach was contaminated with dioxin in 1972 when the Bliss Salvage Oil Co. sprayed unpaved roads with waste oil and other chemical waste material from NEPACCO Co. These products turned out to be contaminated with dioxin as confirmed in 1981 by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (USEPA), which discovered the level of the pollution.
