Compatibilization Through Reactive Processing
Abstract
Several polypropylene-polystyrene blends were made using polypropylene-maleic anhydride graft (PP-MA) copolymer, polystyrene-maleic anhydride graft (PS-MA) copolymer, and polypropylene-styrene (PP-PS) graft copolymer as compatibilizing agents. SEM analysis of blends of PP with PS showed two distinct phases that were not well bonded to each other. The PP-PS copolymer significantly enhanced the quality of the dispersion and interfacial adhesion.
