Evaluation of Crown Refractories under Oxyfuel Environment

Abstract

The use of refractory materials for glass melters under oxyfuel combustion, regarding corrosion resistance, the potential to generate glass defects under various conditions, and thermomechanical properties is summarized in this work. Silica brick will continue to serve in crown construction in many melters due to the excellent creep resistance, low conductivity, and low cost. the fused products used for glass contact appear to be functional alternatives for crowns but with additional structural costs. the next-in-line products appear to be bonded and fused spinel-Based and mullite-Based compositions. a fused version of spinel has demonstrated high creep resistance at crown temperatures and high corrosion resistance. Some monolithic products were also evaluated under oxyfuel simulation, as they have never been evaluated in full-scale furnaces.
