Unified Phenomenological Theory for Micellization, and Solubilization
Abstract
Since micelles, and oil solubilized micelles and microemulsions occupy the same regions in phase diagram, a unified formalism is presented. A common thermodynamic basis has been chosen such that the Gibbs free energies of formation can be written in all cases as the sum of hydrophobic effect and the stretching-bending energies of the surfactant film. The results predict satisfactorily the experimental observations made on micellization and solubilization.
