Abstract

"The problem which has been assigned to me for discussion as examination in metallurgy, is the treatment of a zinc blende from Sevier County, Arkansas; using the common Missouri or Illinois coal for fuel and the Spadra coal of Johnson County, Arkansas, as a reducing agent in the distillation process; and as clay for the manufacture of retorts, etc. that from the works at Cheltenham, Missouri, furnished by Parker, Russell & Company. Analysis of the materials used are to be given with details of processes and drawings & descriptions of machinery used; also approximate cost of furnaces, and approximate cost of production"--Problem for Examination in Metallurgy, page 3.
