Magnetic and Crystallographic Properties of LaNi₍₅₋ₓ₎Feₓ
Abstract
The magnetic and crystollographic properties of LaNi(5-x)Fex, samples (l ≤ x ≤ l.4) have been studied by x-ray diffraction, neutron diffraction, SQUID and Mössbauer spectroscopy. Samples with x ≥ 1.2 display typical ferromagnetic behavior. The substitution of iron for nickel in LaNi5, increases the unit cell volume and Curie temperature. The majority (> 90%) of the Fe atoms appear to occupy the 3g site. Induced Ni magnetic moments at 30K have been calculated using the bulk magnetization data and iron magnetic moments.
