Use of Local Exchange Potentials in Inelastic Scattering
Abstract
We have investigated the use of local exchange potentials for approximating the solution of the exchange integro-differential equation. It is found that judging the accuracy of such potentials by their ability to produce correct elastic scattering phase shifts may not be sufficient for inelastic scattering. This is illustrated through a model calculation of electron excitation of the 2p state of hydrogen.
