Production of High-strength Low-alloy Bridge Steels
Abstract
In the current paper, the key technologies for the production of the HSLA bridge steel - F55q steel were investigated including the composition design, refining scheme, process parameters at continuous casting and rolling process, cleanliness control and the control of product properties via industrial trials. the high strength weather resistant bridge steel was successfully developed. the process route was hot metal pretreatment → BOF → LF → RH → CC → rolling. the F55q steel produced by this route had good mechanical property, and the yield strength was over 550 Mpa and even reached 620 MPa after tempering. No ductile-brittle transition occurred until the temperature was less than -80 oC. the size, composition, and possible sources of inclusions in the steel by the developed production route were investigated. the cleanliness of the produced F55q steel fitted the requirement well.
