SONET Utilization from FDDI Sources
Abstract
This Paper Explores the Performance of the Synchronous Optical Network (SONET) Protocol When It is Receiving Traffic from a Fiber Distributed Data Interface (FDDI) Network. the Method of Exploration is by Simulation using a Simple Model that Was Developed with the NETWORK II.5 Simulation Program. Three Functional Areas Are Simulated, First a Traffic Generator Entity for Producing Frames, Second an Extended Bridge and Third an Entity for Representing the Operation of an Interface to SONET Communication Lines. using the Simulation Results, Measures of the Adequacy of the Model and of the Performance of the SONET Interface Are Discussed. © 1992.
