Guest Editorial: Special Issue on Integrated Local Energy Systems

Abstract

This guest editorial summarizes the topics and the papers selected for the Special Issue on Integrated Local Energy Systems (iLES). In the 35 papers approved for publication after the rigorous reviewing process, 4 papers study the local energy trading, market mechanisms and business models, 4 articles investigate the resilient and robust operation of iLES against the uncertainties and extreme events, and the potential of iLES in improving the utilization of renewables and reducing carbon emission is evaluated in 3 manuscripts. 5 papers explore the optimal energy mix and cost-benefit analysis in the iLES, and the reliability and resource adequacy of iLES are assessed in 4 papers. Further, the interactions between smart buildings, iLES and large energy systems are studied in 4 papers, and 7 papers use the big data techniques and artificial intelligence methods for iLES planning and operations. 4 papers explore the control strategies for iLES operation. The Guest Editorial Board hopes this special issue can provide a valuable information for future research and advancement in the field of integrated local energy systems.
