Window Opening Occurrence in the Us: Influence of Climate and Region
Abstract
A survey of more than 2200 US individuals reveals that window-opening occurrence is strongly and consistently related to temperature and region. Averaged over the 48 contiguous US states, window-opening (at least once per day) peaks at ~ 60% when the maximum daily temperature (MDT) is 22-26°C. Peak window opening varies by region, ranging from 80% in the southwest to 47% in the southeast. As a US average, at MDTs below 10°C or greater than 34°C, window opening is less than 40%.
