Synthesis and X-ray Crystal Structures of Two 14-vertex Di-iron Tetracarbon Metallocarbaboranes
Abstract
The reaction of Me4C4B8H8 with NaC10H8, NaC5H5, and FeCl 2 produces at least four isomers of [(η5-C 5H5)2Fe2Me4 C 4B8H8], two of which have been structurally characterized from X-ray crystallographic studies and form 14-vertex polyhedra; neither compound has the closo-structure predicted from electron-counting rules, containing instead a 5-membered and a 4-membered open face respectively.
