Abstract
"The purpose of this essay is to show the development of the Arthurian story in the creative literature of the English language from the beginning of the nineteenth century to the present with reference to: (1) the relation of the author's treatment of the subject to the spirit of the age, (2) the relation of the author's treatment to the treatment of the subject in his source and, (3) the relation of the author's treatment to his characteristic treatment of other subjects"--Introduction, page 3.
