Abstract
Prediction of earthquake as an exercise of academic interest is one activity. Creation of awareness about seismic disaster and its mitigation is more broad base social activity. It is necessary that the predicted seismic event is likely to occur, people in the vulnerable seismic area should be told about the utility of macroseismic, short-term reliable earthquake precursors, which could be observed by common man. The happenings involving both the above cases for Loma Prieta earthquake are discussed.
