FRP Composites for Strengthening Civil Infrastructure Around the World
Abstract
Some of the experience in composites for strengthening of the civil infrastructure in countries such as the United States, United Kingdom and Japan are described. As such, an increasing interest in the use of externally bonded fiber reinforced polymer (FRP) laminates or plates in for strengthening of steel and iron members is being developed. The increasing use of FRP materials for the strengthening and upgrade of civil infrastructure has motivated the international engineering community to produce guidelines for the proper design, handling and installation of FRP systems.
