| Abstract: | This paper reports on work in progress investigating the attitudes engineers and engineering students have toward appropriate conduct in difficult negotiations. General ethical considerations are reviewed in the context of various common negotiation situations and attitudes toward specific negotiating tactics and ploys are described. Recent corporate scandals and high profile disasters have resulted in greater attention to ethical training in professional and managerial degree programs. The potential impact of such training on engineers’ conduct, especially when they engage in job-related negotiations is discussed. Recommendations for training and directions for future research are provided. |
