Application of High Pressure Water Jets to Longwall Mining

Abstract

The potential advantages of water jets for mining have led to the design of a Hydrominer. This paper describes development of the machine from the conceptual design to a field test of the cutting head. Problems associated with design of the head are discussed with the proposed solution. The paper concludes with a brief discussion of tests carried out using the second generation of the cutting head.
