The 34 papers present computer applications covering many aspects of the industry. They are grouped into thematic sections: mine management and economics surface mining geology and exploration mine safety and ventilation information systems blasting coal preparation ground control and rock mechanics mining machinery and equipment geotechnical applications exploration and reserve analysis. About a third are abstracted separately for publication details of the others are entered on the Geo Abstracts data base.-M.A.Bass
