Use of High Pressure Water Jets in the Mining Industry

Editor(s)

Summers, David A.

Abstract

While there are many advantages in terms of productivity and safety where low pressure, high volume hydraulic mining can be used, there are limits to its useful application. It is in this regard that the author considers the potential benefits which may arise if a different use of hydraulic jet cutting is applied, namely, working with a higher pressure and lower volume system. Four separate systems which were developed at the University of Missouri-Rolla are described and their application in the coal industry is outlined.
