Design of a Hydraulic Longwall Coal Mining Machine

Abstract

The design of the major components of a medium pressure hydraulic coal mining machine is discussed. The machine will produce water jets operating at a continuous pressure of 10,000 psi with a total flow rate of 47.8 gpm. This machine will be used to mine coal from an underground longwall coal face with an expected output of 7 tons/min. Advantages are increased production with reduced power consumption and reduced production of explosive dust. (A)
